PMO holds World Hydrography Day ceremony
The World Hydrography Day event was hosted by the Ports and Maritime Organization and it was announced that 231 Electronic Nautical Charts (ENC) have been updated for the north and south coasts of the country.

PMO News Portal - The ceremony was attended by members of the Executive Board of the Ports and Maritime Organization, the heads of the Iran National Cartographic Center and Armed Forces Geographical Organization. in this ceremony Majid Ali Nazi; Deputy of Maritime Affairs of the Ports and Maritime Organization, highlighted the objectives of the National Hydrographic Committee in the country and the importance of monitoring the implementation of hydrographic requirements in waters under Iranian jurisdiction and said: The Islamic Republic of Iran is actively involved in regional and international actions and decisions related to hydrography and is an effective member of the Policy Council of the International Hydrographic Organization.

“Concerning to the latest international standards, international cooperation in the field of hydrography and standardization Electronic Nautical Charts has been developed and promoted”, he added “With the cooperation of the Ports and Maritime Organization and marine Cartographic Centers, 193 Electronic Nautical Charts (ENC) for the southern coasts and 38 Electronic Nautical Charts for the northern coasts of the country have been updated.

Hydrography provides the basis for all activities which involve the sea. The International Hydrographic Organization works to ensure that all the world's seas, oceans and navigable waters are surveyed and charted, thereby supporting safety of navigation and the protection of the marine environment. It coordinates the activities of national hydrographic offices and sets standards in order to promote uniformity in nautical charts and documents. It issues survey best practices and provides guidelines to maximize the use of hydrographic information.
