PMO News Portal - With 20 agendas in five days, the summit
will review 85 documents received on topics including Ballast Water (Finalisation
of revised Guidance on methodologies that may be used for enumerating viable
organisms for type approval of BWMS and agreement on renewal survey dates), AFS
Convention and Biofouling (Finalisation of guidelines on survey, inspection and
certification of AFS), Black Carbon and HFO in the Arctic (Development of
guidelines), Fuel, Air Pollution and NOx (Review to take account of multiple
engine profiles, cycles and engine families/engine groups) and Exhaust Gas
Treatment (Development of risk assessment framework for discharge of discharge
water)
The Sub-Committee on Pollution Prevention and Response (PPR)
deals with all matters relating to pollution prevention and response which
falls within IMO’s remit. This ranges from all annexes of the MARPOL Convention
through to the control and management of harmful aquatic organisms in ships'
ballast water and sediments; biofouling; anti-fouling system; pollution
preparedness, response and cooperation for oil and hazardous and noxious
substances; and the safe and environmentally sound recycling of ships. The
Working Group on the Evaluation of Safety and Pollution Hazards of Chemicals
works under the auspices of the PPR Sub-Committee.
