Revealed in a social media post from the Port of Rotterdam,
the software is able to predict the impact that storms and adverse weather will
have on moored vessels, providing users in the port with the much-needed time
to prepare and avoid incidents in the port.
By combining hydrodynamic calculations and weather
forecasts, the software is able to get a full port safety overview and assess
any type of vessel. Port authorities are also able to integrate it into their
systems if needed.
The update to the port’s operations comes as part of its
digitalisation strategy. This strategy has also informed its decision to join
BIM (Building Information Management) Basis Infra to help improve information
management processes across various assets, such as quay walls and bollards.
This would allow for smarter and more efficient management of logistics chains
and asset management.
