Iran seizes an oil tanker in Persian Gulf due to marine pollution
An oil tanker carrying chemicals and petroleum products was seized in the Persian Gulf due to marine pollution.

PMO News Portal - Esmaeil Makizadeh, Deputy of Maritme affairs in Ports and Maritime office of Hormozgan Province stated: At 10 a.m. today, Monday, January 4, a South Korean-flagged oil tanker, called HANKUK CHEMI departing from port of Al-Jubail in Saudi Arabia, heading to Fujairah in the UAE was seized due to marine pollution in Iranian waters.

Makizadeh added: the said vessel continued moving toward destination despite warnings from Iranian authorities. This vessel was seized and directed to Bandar Abbas port for legal procedures and investigations.

In this regard, Polmeh, Secretary General of Shipping Association of Iran stated: The reason for the seizure of this vessel was environmental pollution and repeated violations of environmental laws.
