PMO News Portal - The Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO)
has deployed 13 new service vessels across commercial ports. Among these are
four 1,800-horsepower tugboats, which are expected to increase the safety and
speed of berthing and unberthing operations for incoming and outgoing ships.
According to Saeed Rasouli, Deputy Minister of Roads and
Urban Development and Managing Director of the PMO, the new assets will enhance
the overall quality of maritime services in Iranian ports while responding to
growing demands for safer and more efficient vessel handling.
Upgraded Capabilities in Search and Rescue Operations
The fleet expansion also includes nine newly built maritime
search and rescue (SAR) vessels. Designed for high-speed operations in shallow
waters, these vessels feature a draft of only 80 centimeters and can operate at
speeds exceeding 30 knots.
“These vessels significantly improve our ability to conduct
SAR missions across shallow and coastal areas under national jurisdiction,”
Rasouli stated. “They expand the PMO’s operational reach and strengthen our
emergency response infrastructure.”
Nationwide Deployment and Additional Infrastructure
Readiness
The advanced SAR vessels will be distributed across all
coastal provinces, ensuring consistent maritime safety standards throughout the
country. In parallel, the PMO has also completed the construction of nine
firefighting trucks and two mobile loading arms for handling petroleum cargo,
all of which are now ready for operational deployment.
The developments are part of Iran’s national
strategy to modernize port services, upgrade maritime infrastructure, and align
more closely with international maritime safety and operational standards
