Strengthening maritime diplomacy, Iran’s ultimate mission in IMO
The Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the International Maritime Organization (IMO): strengthening the country's maritime diplomacy needs to be on the agenda.

 

PMO News Portal - In an interview with the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, Pouria Kolivand, The Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), referred to the Islamic Republic of Iran's plans in the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and stated: "After five years of absence in IMO meetings, with continuous organizational efforts and special cooperation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we are seeking to revive Iran's presence in IMO’s meetings. 

 

Kolivand pointed out that various issues were discussed with the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) during his visit to Tehran, and stated: "The presence of Iranians in international forums was one of the requests raised, including the assignment of vacant positions to Iranian maritime experts."

 

According to Kolivand, holding training courses through the World Maritime University (WMU) and the International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) as well as developing technical cooperation centered on the Islamic Republic of Iran are also among the other items on the agenda.

 

Kolivand added: To strengthen maritime diplomacy in the world, given the available capacities, we can play an active role more than ever to access active diplomacy in the region.
