Low-sulfur fuel supplied to the Iranian fleet

Domestically-produced low sulfur fuel was supplied to the maritime commercial fleet of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

PMO News Portal - Following the International Maritime Organization (IMO) 2020 requirements for low sulfur fuel (0.5%), the Shipping Company of the Islamic Republic of Iran succeeded in implementing a refueling project (bunkering) to national vessels in the port of Salkh on Qeshm Island.

Mohsen Fakheri, CEO of Setareh Qeshm Fuel and Shipping Services Company staed that the project of producing domestic low-sulfur fuel with the cooperation of knowledge-based companies started mid-2000s.

He conrinued: the amount of investment made in the Salkh and Qeshm refueling (bunking) project was 1700 billion Rls. in addition to the construction of infrastructure, the relevant international licenses and certificates have been obtained.

According to Fakheri, the coastal section of the refueling project on a land area of more than 12 hectares (including 10 storage tanks for petroleum products with a volume of 52,600 cubic meters, more than 10 km of fuel transmission pipelines, pump house, dumping facilities for heavy fuel tankers and diesel, blending facilities and hot oil boilers, etc.) have been established and completed by the end of 2016.
