PMO News Portal - The 32nd session of the International Maritime Organization Assembly, attended by 174 member states, began on the evening of Monday, December 6, and due to the restrictions caused by the spread of the Corona virus, the meeting is being held online. the Iranian representatives in the United Kingdom and IMO, which includes the organization's permanent representative in IMO, along with an embassy expert, are present at the summit.

The head of the Iranian delegation for the 32nd session is Ali Akbar Safaei; Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Managing Director of the Ports and Maritime Organization and Hossein Abbasnejad; Head of Maritime Affairs and Ali Akbar Marzban; The Director General of seafarers Affairs and specialized and international organizations will participate in this session.

The agenda of the 32nd session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly includes the hearing of IMO Council reports on the activities in last two years and its approval, budget approval, approval of IMO structure reforms, hearing of reports of major IMO committees such as Legal Committee, Conservation The Marine Environment Committee, the Maritime Traffic Facilitation Committee, the Technical Cooperation Committee and the Maritime Safety Committee, as well as IMO-affiliated institutions such as the International Maritime University and the Malta Institute of International Law, will present their reports during the session.

The Assembly is IMO’s the highest governing body. It is responsible for approving the work programme and budget; and determining financial arrangements and electing the IMO Council. The Assembly consists of all IMO Member States and meets once every two years.
