PMO News Portal - in the
ceremony for the commemoration of the World Maritime Day, Mohammad Rastad stated
that the capacity of the country's ports is beyond domestic needs and there is unused
capacity in port terminals and the country's commercial and oil shipping fleet.
“Iran is one of the
leading countries in the world in terms of fleet owned and it is necessary to attract
transit goods in appropriate conditions to become the transshipment hub of the
region." said The managing director of the Ports and Maritime Organization.
According to Rastad,
large container vessels are now banned from calling Iranian container
terminals, while under normal circumstances we have the capacity to become a transshipment
hub for some ports in the region and take our share of the region's economy.
“The comprehensive plan
of commercial ports has been finalized according to market studies and economic
growth forecasts, and we know what should be implemented in the next four years
in terms of infrastructure, port superstructure and port equipment.”, Rastad emphasized.
