Moving toward 3rd Generation ports
Minister of Roads and Urban Development: Increasing exports, creating investment opportunities, facilitating logistical power and turning ports into third generation ports, are the designated approaches for the country's commercial ports.

PMO News Portal - In the ceremony of signing the memorandum of understanding for 6 private sector investment contracts in the 2400-hectare hinterland of Shahid Rajaei port, Mohammad Eslami stated: By converting ports into third generation ports, we seek to increase the Iran’s share in international markets and reduce the cost of goods and simultaneously, create economic and commercial attractions.

“With development plans; 2400 hectares of new lands have been added to Shahid Rajaei port’s hinterland and this is an important step. These MoUs focus on the of knowledge-based issues and competitive activities; the other ones focus on foreign activities and their main target is export markets.” Eslami added.

Minister of Roads and Urban Development concluded: The total capacity of the ports is currently 280 million tons, which needs to be at least doubled in 5 years. It is also planned to increase the capacity of the ports of Makran coast to 220 million tons.

Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) signed six memorandums of understanding (MOU) with domestic companies for investing 100 trillion rials (about $2.38 billion) plus €800 million in development projects of Shahid Rajaee port’s hinterland.
