PMO News Portal - Regarding the macro strategies for
development of Chabahar port, Mohammad Rastad stated: Iran-Afghanistan-India agreement,
also known as Chabahar agreement has a good capacity to be able to carry out a
significant volume of goods according to the demand in these two countries.
In terms of port and maritime structuresm Chabahar port is fully equipped and capable of accepting large
ships, so one of the important strategies is to direct a significant share of
imported basic commodities to Chabahar port.
On the other hand, considering the main activities of the Iranian port, which
is carried out through the Strait of Hormuz and along the coast of the Persian
Gulf, Chabahar Port is the most important port in the country outside the
Strait of Hormuz and on the coast of the Oman Sea and Indian Ocean. The port enjoys
a special and unique position for the country and the created capacity of 8.5
million tons per year, is a significant number; the deputy minister of road and
urban development added.
Rastad continued: In terms of achieving a special position
in transit and transit corridors in the region, this port is one of the main
priorities which its growth and development is on the agenda. Of course, in
this regard, a special program has been prepared to attract private sector
investment and foreign investment in equipping, developing and operationalizing.
