PMO News Portal - At the 27th meeting of the IOMOU member states, the Hong Kong Convention was accepted as one of the documents considered for the control and inspection of ships in the Indian Ocean region, and consequently, it was set to put the relevant guidelines on the agenda for the effective implementation of the requirements.
The committee appointed the Islamic Republic of Iran as one of the core members of the Working Group on the Preparation and development of Guidelines for the Control and Inspection of Ships under the Hong Kong Convention in collaboration and cooperation with India, Bangladesh, Australia, Sri Lanka and Mauritius.
The Hong Kong Convention, adopted by the International Maritime Organization in 2009, includes a set of requirements for the design, construction, and management of ships for recycling in safe and environmentally sound conditions, while its provisions do not endanger the safety and efficiency of ships during operation.
